JULY - AUGUST

The fifteen days before full moon of August or early September, and the fifteen which follow, comprise the scared lunar month of Gunla, the holiest of period of the Buddhists. During these auspicious thirty days the Buddhists devote themselves with great enthusiasm to fasting, penances, pilgrimages and holy ceremonies with a typically Newari climax of feasting, merrymaking and rejoicing.
